Intellectual Property Law
About Hoffberg & Associates
Mr. Hoffberg is a technologist, investor, inventor of over 110 US patents,
strategic advisor, and patent attorney. His longstanding interest in economic
theory leads to a unique perspective and approach to intellectual property, while
at the same time delivering quality work product.
Intellectual property has value only when exploited for public benefit (though in
some cases, withholding a technology from the market to permit
commercialization of a competing technology is a benefit), and therefore merely
protecting an invention is insufficient. We assist companies, institutions, and
individuals in planning and executing IP strategies toward commercialization,
including creating technologies, obtaining strong protection and enforcement,
acquiring, licensing, brokering and selling IP, and in developing
commercialization plans.
Hoffberg & Associates is a sole practice, and work undertaken is performed by
Mr. Hoffberg. However, we do not necessarily act alone, and with client consent,
will enlist support and assistance of colleagues to support our efforts. In all IP
creator representation projects, our focus is on successful deployment of
technologies pursuant to sound business plan, with economic justification, and
likely eventual return on investment. We do balance our considerations, and
understand the plight of defendants, who may be “efficient infringers” or unfairly
accused.
In addition to our experience working across a range of pure disciplines, we
specialize in interdisciplinary technologies. We have worked in projects involving
Internet/networking; communications; cognitive radar; lidar; MIMO
communications; databases and information science; cryptography;
cryptocurrencies; "smart" contracts; distributed ledger, VR/AR/MR; ad hoc
communications; game theory; optimization theory; application of
market/economic principles to engineered systems; human interface systems
and ergonomics; automated control systems; data and image analysis; MEMS;
nanotechnologies; medical devices; biotech; genetic engineering; pharma; drug
delivery; and speech technologies.
